Happy New Year, everyone! It is officially 2022, and there is much to be optimistic about this year. Hopefully, this is the year that we can get back to fully participating in the activities that we enjoy when it is safe to do so.
In the latter portion of 2021, I had the opportunity to present two Private Member Statements during the Legislative session, that highlight two exceptional Dawson Trail constituents. The first is Kyle Waczko, an avid volunteer and fundraiser. Kyle is passionate about wildlife conservation, and as a result, he began volunteering at Ducks Unlimited and has since been named their volunteer of the year in Manitoba. He is also a volunteer firefighter and an advocate for childhood cancer. He has taken part in the Great Cycle Challenge of Canada to fight childhood cancer. Kyle has raised $4,000 and is third in the province for fundraising out of 1000 riders. Thank you, Kyle, for being an outstanding member of our community.
The second Dawson Trail resident I had the pleasure of highlighting was Lisa Spring, Airbnb’s most hospitable host in Manitoba. As the host of Painted Turtle Lake Retreat, Lisa earned this title from the number of 5-star reviews she has received, as well as the excellent communication, check-in experience, and cleanliness she provides to the guests staying at her property. Lisa has since become disabled, making it a bit more challenging for her to manage the Airbnb on her own. However, with the help of a co-host and cleaning staff, she’s able to continue running a successful business. I am honoured to have been able to highlight these remarkable Dawson Trail individuals who are doing so much to help build a strong and positive community.
