Recently, some exciting announcements were made regarding Premier Heather Stefanson’s first cabinet shuffle. I am pleased to announce that I have been appointed as the legislative assistant to the Minister of Families. As someone who has experience with children who navigated the CFS system, I understand how big of a responsibility this is, and I am honoured to have been selected for the position. I look forward to immersing myself in the responsibilities of this new role, and the many ways in which I will be able to assist Manitobans.
I’d like to give a brief update regarding the state of the intersection of Provincial Trunk Highway (PTH) 12 and Provincial Road (PR) 210. Following public concerns, MTI implanted several immediate interim safety concerns in 2020 including red flashing lights on the stop signs for PR 210 traffic approaching PTH 12, rumble strips along PR 210 as it approaches from both sides onto PTH 12, reduced speed signs to 70 km/h for the eastbound direction on PR 210, a “stop ahead” sign for the westbound direction on PR 210, and refreshed and enhanced stop lines.
Currently, the department of MTI is conducting a formal safety review of the intersection at PTH 12 and PR 210. The review is intended to provide further recommendations to improve safety at the transition area. Some of the factors that will be assessed in the safety review include traffic volumes, traffic conflict analysis, human factors analysis, options for sight-line improvements, traffic signs, pavement markings, roadway geometry, and speed limits. Our government recognizes the importance of highway safety, and I am very pleased to see these improvements developed in our community.
